Course Report
Hundreds of tons of sand were used to create the inland links surfaces, resulting in one of the best-drained and firmest golf courses in Sweden.
About
Vallda Golf & Country Club is a premier 18-hole Scottish inland links-style course in Halland, Sweden, designed by Martin Hawtree. Inspired by legendary 1920s layouts, it features dry, firm playing surfaces, strategic bunkering, and undulating greens. Often recognized among the country's top golf courses, Vallda blends British heathland tradition with Swedish natural beauty and top-tier practice facilities.
Caddie Tip
Beware the firm, sandy turf and undulating greens—play approach shots short and let the ball roll out. Strategic thinking is vital: position tee shots to avoid deep fairway bunkers and high fescue. Aim for the lower side of sloping greens and favor bump-and-run chips over aerial play.
The Main Challenge
The hardest aspect of Vallda is mastering its firm, rolling fairways and quick, undulating greens. Strategic bunkering and high fescue demand careful shot placement, especially in wind. Approach shots play best on the ground, and recovery from thick rough or deep hazards can be punishing.
The Good
Golfers consistently praise Vallda's authentic Scottish heathland feel, strategic variety, and consistently firm, fast playing surfaces. The course blends scenic meadows and oak woodland with challenging yet rewarding architecture that inspires creative shotmaking. The calm, natural setting and friendly staff add to the standout experience.
The Not So Good
Some players note that rough areas can get quite thick in the summer, making it difficult to find and play balls. Limited shaded areas can lead to discomfort during hot days, and drainage can occasionally make bunkers heavy after prolonged rain, though overall conditions remain strong.
Signature Hole:
#
18
The 18th is a par 4 finishing hole that showcases Vallda's classic links character: a tree-framed fairway, undulating terrain, and strategically placed bunkers. Players face a challenging approach to a guarded green with swales and slopes requiring precision and touch to close out the round.
Clubhouse
The clubhouse features elegant locker rooms, a pro shop, a fine dining restaurant, lounge areas, and credit card payment. Golfers can enjoy post-round dining at Lyxells restaurant, with catering services and modern relaxation spaces. The facility is designed for comfort and convenience.
Practice Facilities
Vallda offers a spacious driving range with grass and mats, dedicated short game and bunker areas, and large putting greens. All facilities are well maintained and accessible to guests, with golf tuition available from certified professionals.
