Course Report
Vietnam Golf & Country Club was Vietnam’s first 36-hole golf facility and hosted significant Asian Tour events, including the Hana Bank Vietnam Masters on its East Course.
About
Vietnam Golf & Country Club (East Course), designed by Lee Trevino and opened in 1997, offers 18 parkland-style holes just outside downtown Ho Chi Minh City. With generous fairways, strategic bunkering, and undulating Bermuda greens, this course blends challenge and playability for all skill levels, making it a highly regarded venue in Vietnam’s golf scene.
Caddie Tip
Play for precision before power—aim for smart approach shots and avoid water and deep bunkers, especially on holes with undulating greens. Golfers often lose bets on poor putting, so focus on reading green slopes and pace. Reliable iron play is essential for scoring well, especially on the smaller, sloped greens.
The Main Challenge
The greatest challenge at Vietnam Golf & Country Club (East) stems from its well-placed bunkers and water hazards, which require careful planning off the tee and precise shot-making on approaches. The undulating Bermuda greens present tricky putts from nearly every angle, demanding concentration and skill to avoid three-putts.
The Good
Golfers love the East Course’s comfortable walkable layout, strategic bunkering, and challenging but fair greens. Its proximity to the city makes it popular with visiting golfers and locals alike. The lush, mature woodlands and tranquility along the fairways offer an appealing escape from the urban bustle.
The Not So Good
Many golfers note that the fairway conditions can become patchy during the rainy season, and pace of play suffers on busy weekends. The undulating greens often require extra maintenance to maintain consistency, so occasional rough patches on putting surfaces have been mentioned.
