About

Curley is responsible for the design of all 10 courses at Mission Hills Haikou, part of the world's largest golf resort complex.

Brian Curley is an acclaimed golf course architect, widely recognized for his prominent influence on both American and Asian golf landscapes. Raised in Pebble Beach, California, Curley's early exposure to golf came from playing, caddying, and working at some of the area’s iconic courses, which nurtured his deep appreciation for course architecture. After graduating from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in architecture in 1982, he began his career under legendary designer Pete Dye and later partnered with Lee Schmidt. In 1997, they formed Schmidt-Curley Design, initially focusing on the U.S. but soon rising to global prominence for their pioneering work across Asia, particularly China. Curley is credited with designing or co-designing over 20 courses at the massive Mission Hills Golf Club—the world’s largest golf facility—including all 10 courses at Mission Hills Haikou. Honors include being named 'Architect of the Year' by GOLF Magazine and recognized as one of golf’s most influential architects by Golf Inc.
