About

Clive Clark’s design Belgrade Lakes Golf Course received Golf Digest’s prestigious 5-star award, making it one of only 12 daily-fee courses in the U.S. to earn this honor alongside legendary sites like Pebble Beach.

Clive Clark is a celebrated English golf course architect with a distinguished legacy in both golf design and competitive play. After an accomplished playing career—he competed in the Walker Cup, played in the Ryder Cup in 1973, secured five European Tour victories, and earned a third-place finish at the 1967 British Open—Clark transitioned to broadcasting, serving as a BBC Television golf commentator for 18 years. His design work began in a successful partnership with Peter Alliss and later flourished independently with Clive Clark Design, based in La Quinta, California. Clark has designed over 30 courses across Europe and the United States, including award-winning projects such as Belgrade Lakes Golf Course (Maine) and Lake Winnipesaukee (New Hampshire), both of which achieved top state rankings and national recognition. Notable venues also include Dumbarnie Links (Scotland) and The Hideaway (California). Clark’s influence spans tournament play, media, and a portfolio of acclaimed golf environments.
