About

Lake Winnipesaukee Golf Club is a private Clive Clark-designed course set across 700 mountain acres in New Durham, New Hampshire. Opened in 1990, the club features bentgrass tees, fairways, and greens, with strategic holes routed through dense forests and around wetlands. The design showcases dramatic elevation changes and panoramic views, blending seamlessly with natural ponds, woodland, and fescues.

Caddie Tip

Keep your drives in play, as fairways are framed by dense forest. Many holes feature elevation changes and wetlands, so plan club selection carefully. On par 5s, layups are often safer than aggressive approaches. Pay attention to pin locations, as greens are well-contoured and approaches tend to punish errant shots.

The Main Challenge

The course’s biggest challenge comes from its narrow landing areas, dense forests, wetlands, and dramatic elevation changes. Strategic bunkering guards many greens, making precise approach shots crucial, especially with slick bentgrass surfaces. The front nine’s long par 5s test distance and accuracy, while the back nine rewards shotmaking and mental discipline.

The Good

Golfers love the mountain setting, tranquility, and the feeling of seclusion provided by holes routed through mature New Hampshire forest. The dramatic elevation changes, scenic views, and quality greens are frequently highlighted. The course is praised for both its strategic challenge and its natural beauty, making rounds here feel truly special.

The Not So Good

Access is limited to members and their guests, making it challenging for non-members to experience the layout. Some players note that the dense forest and tightness in areas can heavily penalize less accurate shots, leading to lost balls and slower rounds especially for higher handicaps. Wetlands may impact playability if the region receives sustained rainfall.
