Lee Schmidt and his design partner Brian Curley designed all ten courses at both Mission Hills Resort in Shenzhen and Mission Hills Haikou, making them a key force behind two of the largest golf resorts in the world.
Lee Schmidt is a renowned American golf course architect with a career spanning over 45 years. A native of Carmel, Indiana, he earned a degree in Agronomy from Purdue University in 1970. Schmidt began his career with legendary architect Pete Dye, working as a design associate on notable projects including Casa De Campo. He then led the golf course design and construction division at Landmark Land Company for 12 years, playing a key role in creating courses at PGA WEST, La Quinta Hotel Resort, and Mission Hills Resort. Schmidt spent seven years as a senior design associate at Nicklaus Design, expanding his international expertise with acclaimed projects such as Spring City Resort in China and Nicklaus North in Canada. In 1998, he co-founded Schmidt-Curley Design with Brian Curley, overseeing the creation of numerous world-renowned courses across the United States and Asia, such as Amata Spring Country Club and multiple courses at Mission Hills. Schmidt is a past president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects.
