About
Les Furber designed the first modern golf course in the Czech Republic (Karlstejn Golf Resort) and Cuba’s first 18-hole course (Varadero Golf Club).
Les Furber is a renowned Canadian golf course architect celebrated for his significant impact on the sport both nationally and internationally. Growing up near Tisdale, Saskatchewan, Furber’s early experience operating farm machinery led to an unexpected entry into golf construction during a California holiday in the 1960s. Furber spent over a decade apprenticing and working alongside legendary architect Robert Trent Jones Sr., contributing to the design and construction of 18 courses across Europe, Morocco, the Dominican Republic, and Canada. In 1980, Furber founded his own firm, Les Furber Design (Golf Design Services), in Canmore, Alberta, and went on to design over 60 new courses and remodel 52 others across Canada. His notable works include Predator Ridge, Gallagher’s Canyon, Trickle Creek, The Springs at Radium, St. Eugene Mission, and Silvertip at Canmore. Furber is acclaimed for creating fair, playable layouts that embrace land contours and cater to a wide range of golfer abilities.
