During a site walk for a course design in rural Kentucky, Mark Mungeam was chased by a stampede of cows, an unforgettable experience in his career.

Mark Mungeam is a distinguished American golf course architect known for his commitment to using the natural characteristics of each site to shape unique golf experiences. After earning a degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, he gained hands-on experience in course maintenance and construction throughout the East Coast. Mungeam joined the firm Cornish and Silva in 1987 and became a principal in Cornish, Silva, and Mungeam by 1995. He later cofounded Mungeam Cornish Golf Design. Some of his most notable works include the renovation of Olympia Fields Country Club in Chicago for the 2003 U.S. Open, designs for Shaker Hills and Cyprian Keyes in Massachusetts, and the Links at Hiawatha Landing in New York. Known for personal involvement and subtle design features, Mungeam has also led renovations at Farm Neck Golf Club and is set to serve as president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects in fall 2025.
