Steve Smyers is a highly respected American golf course architect with a career spanning nearly five decades. A graduate of the University of Florida and a member of its 1973 NCAA National Championship golf team, Smyers began designing award-winning courses in the late 20th century. As president of Steve Smyers Golf Course Architects, he has left his mark on courses across the globe, including the acclaimed Southern Dunes Golf and Country Club in Florida, recognized for its bold bunkering and dynamic use of natural landforms. Smyers’ design philosophy emphasizes strategic shotmaking and the intelligent use of a site’s natural features. He has served as both president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects and as a member of the USGA Executive Committee, chairing several major committees within the organization.
