Course Report
BanBury Golf Course is the only course in Idaho to have hosted a USGA Championship, welcoming the US Girls Championship in 2005.
About
BanBury Golf Course, designed by John Harbottle III and opened in 1999, is a public 18-hole, par 71 course stretching 6,890 yards through Eagle, Idaho. The course navigates the south channel of the Boise River, blending Scottish-inspired mounding, bentgrass greens, and natural habitat. Consistently rated among Idaho's top 10 courses, BanBury offers memorable golf with scenic river views and challenging water features.
Caddie Tip
Play conservatively on holes where water comes into play—almost every hole features some water hazard or wetland area. Favor accuracy off the tee rather than distance, as mounding and strategic bunkers can surprise even experienced players. Approach the greens thoughtfully; they are well-protected and undulating, making short game precision essential.
The Main Challenge
Water comes into play on all 18 holes, requiring thoughtful shot selection and accuracy. The strategic mounding, well-placed bunkers, and variety in hole layouts pose challenges for every skill level. Success at BanBury demands strong course management and confident play around the greens, especially when approaching the finish.
The Good
Golfers rave about BanBury's scenery and ambiance, with the Boise River weaving through the property and wildlife like eagles and cranes ever-present. The strategy required on nearly every hole, combined with impeccable bentgrass greens and an attractive parkland setting, make for a consistently enjoyable round.
The Not So Good
Some golfers mention that the course can get crowded during peak play, occasionally leading to slower rounds. Others note that certain areas could benefit from more consistent maintenance, particularly in late summer when irrigation challenges can cause a few dry patches.
Signature Hole:
#
18
The 18th hole, a par 5, is BanBury's signature: a visually stunning finisher with an extensive lake along the fairway and a green guarded by stadium-like mounding and white sand bunkers. While not the toughest par 5, it offers a memorable final challenge and a beautiful setting to conclude your round.
Clubhouse
The clubhouse features a well-stocked pro shop, locker facilities, and a popular restaurant with patio seating overlooking the course. BanBury is also a local favorite for events, with flexible event spaces, quality catering, and friendly service staff.
Practice Facilities
BanBury offers a full driving range, a spacious putting green, and dedicated short-game practice areas. Lessons and clinics are available for all ages. The practice facilities are popular with regulars looking to improve their game throughout the season.
