Course Report
Streamsong Red was built on reclaimed phosphate mining land, and the site's towering dunes are a direct result of the mining process, creating a landscape unique in Florida golf.
About
Streamsong Red is a Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw design set amidst Central Florida's wild former phosphate mining landscape. With towering dunes, native grasses, and rolling terrain, it's a strategic, visually dramatic course that feels more like the Midwest than Florida. Frequently ranked among America's best public layouts, it delivers a pure, natural, and memorable golf experience.
Caddie Tip
Play to the wide side of each fairway for the best angles into greens, as subtle contours and native grass penalties make aggressive lines risky. Pay attention to wind direction, as the open setting makes gusts deceptive and can change club selection quickly, especially on approach shots.
The Main Challenge
The toughest challenge is negotiating the wind-swept open holes and avoiding deep, strategically positioned bunkers that capture errant shots. The exposed setting amplifies wind effect, and several tee shots require precise placement to avoid trouble. Greens are large but filled with subtle breaks, demanding thoughtful approach shots.
The Good
Golfers rave about the course’s natural beauty, unique landforms, and the variety of holes presented by Coore & Crenshaw’s routing. The experience feels remote and immersive, with dramatic elevation changes not found elsewhere in Florida making every round feel adventurous and memorable.
The Not So Good
Some guests note the high price point, especially in peak season, and occasional slow pace of play during busy times. The walk can also be taxing in hot weather, and the remote location requires advance planning for lodging and meals. Some players wish for more shaded areas on course.
Signature Hole:
#
16
The 16th hole, a par 4, is one of Streamsong Red’s most photographed holes. It features a dramatic tee shot over a vast sand waste area toward a fairway nestled between dunes, with a green perched atop a natural rise. Strategic bunkering and native grasses make club selection crucial for both the drive and approach.
Clubhouse
Expect a modern clubhouse with full-service restaurant, bar, and golf shop. Locker rooms, lounge areas, and terrace seating offer space to relax before and after rounds, while staff provide attentive service for both resort guests and day visitors.
Practice Facilities
The resort’s practice area includes a spacious double-ended range, large putting greens, and a separate short game area with bunkers and ample room to practice different shots. Facilities are shared with the Blue Course and are highly regarded for their scale and conditioning.
