Course Report

Bay Creek is the only golf facility in the U.S. featuring both Palmer and Nicklaus Signature courses on the same property, providing players a rare opportunity to experience the contrasting design philosophies of two legends.

About

Bay Creek Golf Club, located on Virginia’s Eastern Shore and set against the Chesapeake Bay, features 27 scenic holes designed by Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer. Offering stunning bay vistas, unique layout, and strong challenge across dunes and woodlands, the club is recognized as a Mid-Atlantic standout. The greens are A-4 Bentgrass and fairways are Bermuda.

Caddie Tip

Wind off the bay influences many shots — especially on the Nicklaus course, where club selection is paramount. Play for the center of most greens and avoid missing left on holes bordering water. On windy days, flight shots lower and don’t chase tight pins that bring hazards into play.

The Main Challenge

The toughest challenge at Bay Creek is managing strong winds off the bay, which shape shot choices on holes open to water. Strategic bunkering and well-protected, undulating greens demand accuracy all round. The closing stretch on both courses features forced carries and fine risk-reward decisions.

The Good

Golfers most appreciate the dramatic views of the Chesapeake Bay from multiple holes, thoughtfully integrated natural surroundings, and the challenge and beauty unique to each nine. The setting is serene, and the contrast between the Nicklaus and Palmer courses offers plenty of variety for repeat play.

The Not So Good

Common complaints center around inconsistent conditioning after heavy rains, as some low-lying holes may drain poorly. The semi-private access model also limits tee time availability for non-members, and some guests suggest the rough can be penal with tall native grasses encroaching play.

Signature Hole:

#

7

No items found.

Hole 7 on the Nicklaus Course is a lengthy par 3 bordered by dunes and framed by the Chesapeake Bay, demanding a precise tee shot over native grasses. The green sits exposed to bay breezes and is well-protected by bunkers, making both club selection and accuracy essential for scoring.

Clubhouse

No items found.

The main clubhouse features the Coach House Tavern, locker rooms, showers, well-stocked golf shop, banquet rooms for events, and excellent panoramic views. Members and resort guests have access to a modern fitness center, outdoor pool, and tennis courts through the Bay Creek Life Center.

Practice Facilities

No items found.

Facilities include a large grass driving range, expansive putting greens, and dedicated short game areas. All areas are well-maintained and oriented to reflect real course conditions.
