Course Report
Bell Nob also features a distinct 9-hole par-3 course and is a hub for community events and youth golf, including footgolf.
About
Bell Nob Golf Course is a public, link-style course in Gillette, Wyoming, designed by Frank Hummel in 1981. It features 18 challenging holes at 7,258 yards from the tips, large undulating greens, sand bunkers, and strategic water hazards, all set within an open prairie landscape. Rated for approachable play and robust public amenities, it offers a welcoming experience for all golfer levels.
Caddie Tip
Bell Nob's prairie openness leaves golfers at the mercy of the wind, especially on approach shots. When conditions are breezy, keep your ball flight low, and don't underestimate the fast-paced, undulating greens. Take extra club when approaching into prevailing wind, and be cautious of water hazards lurking on the back nine.
The Main Challenge
The persistent Wyoming winds and large, sloping greens present the main challenges at Bell Nob. Precise approach shots are required to avoid tricky bunkers and to control the ball's movement on quick, undulating surfaces. Water hazards on the back nine demand careful strategy to avoid costly mistakes.
The Good
Golfers appreciate the expansive layout, playable yet challenging design, and consistently well-kept greens. The blend of prairie views, value-oriented fees, and welcoming clubhouse atmosphere make it popular for locals and visitors alike. Many highlight the openness of the course and the thoughtful arrangement of hazards that keep play interesting without being unfair.
The Not So Good
Some players report sections of the fairway and rough can dry out late in the season, especially during hot Wyoming summers. Occasional strong prairie winds also add to pace-of-play concerns on busy days, and the lack of significant tree cover offers limited wind protection or definition to some fairways.
