Course Report

Breckenridge Golf Club is the only town-owned Jack Nicklaus Signature 27-hole facility in the world, offering panoramic views and the rare chance to see wildlife such as elk, moose, and beaver during play.

About

Breckenridge Golf Club is the only municipal Jack Nicklaus Signature course in the world, featuring three scenic nine-hole layouts (Bear, Beaver, Elk) amid the Rocky Mountains. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, the course sits at over 9,300 feet elevation, providing dramatic elevation changes, panoramic alpine views, challenging play, and frequent wildlife sightings.

Caddie Tip

The high altitude means the ball will travel farther than you expect—reduce your club selection by at least one for most shots. Focus on landing the ball softly, as the greens are fast and tend to repel mishit approaches. Play conservatively off the tee to avoid the dense native rough and hazards.

The Main Challenge

The toughest challenge at Breckenridge is managing your club selection and controlling approach shots into fast, elevated greens. The layout’s altitude, frequent elevation changes, and strategic bunker placement demand accuracy—and the dense rough and wetlands penalize errant shots. Players need to adjust to mountain golf quickly to score well.

The Good

Golfers consistently rave about the breathtaking mountain views from nearly every hole, the diverse wildlife seen on the course, and the unique experience of playing at high elevation. The Nicklaus design offers a rewarding challenge for all skill levels, and the pristine alpine setting makes each round memorable.

The Not So Good

Players note that pace of play can suffer during busy periods without a consistent course marshal presence on all nines. Greens, while fast and in excellent shape, can be extremely firm and difficult to hold, especially for less experienced golfers not accustomed to mountain golf or elevated green speeds.

Signature Hole:

#

9

No items found.

The 9th hole on the Bear Course—a par 4—features a dramatic downhill tee shot framed by towering peaks and dense pine forests, leading to a challenging approach to an elevated green with water in play. The stunning alpine vista and strategic shot values make this hole a standout and a memorable finish to the nine.

Clubhouse

No items found.

The modern clubhouse features a well-stocked golf shop, spacious locker rooms, and a casual restaurant with indoor and patio seating overlooking the course and mountain vistas. Rentals include premium golf clubs, electric carts, and pull-carts; attentive staff provide tournament and group services.

Practice Facilities

No items found.

Breckenridge Golf Club offers a grass driving range, putting green, and a short-game area. The range provides ample space to warm up, and the short-game facility helps with bunker and pitch practice. PGA instruction and junior clinics are available for all skill levels.
