Course Report

The course features 11 lakes and 52 bunkers, making it one of the most water-intensive layouts in northern Mississippi.

About

Cherokee Valley Golf Club, designed to challenge golfers of all skill levels, is one of North Mississippi’s finest public courses. Located on a prominent hill in Olive Branch and designed by Don Cottle, Jr., it offers 18 holes over 6,751 yards with numerous lakes and bunkers. The course is locally known for its wide Zoysia fairways, Champion Bermuda greens, and a full-featured practice facility.

Caddie Tip

Stay focused on positioning from the tee, particularly on the back nine where water hazards and bunkers come into play frequently. Aim for the center of the greens, as the Champion Bermuda surfaces can run fast and true, especially during peak season. Use the generous fairways to your advantage but don't be overconfident—errant shots can be penalized.

The Main Challenge

Cherokee Valley’s toughest challenge is negotiating its 11 lakes and 52 bunkers, especially as they come into play on several key approach shots. Some holes require both accuracy and smart club selection, particularly as elevation and wind can affect shotmaking across the gently rolling terrain.

The Good

Golfers consistently praise Cherokee Valley's well-maintained Zoysia fairways and large Champion Bermuda greens, which make for enjoyable and consistent play. Multiple tee options allow all skill levels to feel challenged but not overwhelmed. The friendly staff and solid pace of play also add to the excellent overall experience.

The Not So Good

Some players note that, during certain peak times, maintenance on bunkers and water features can lag slightly behind the otherwise good course conditions. On weekends and tournament days, the pace of play can occasionally be a bit slow due to the course’s popularity.
