Course Report

The club is not only renowned for golf but also for its luxury ranch lifestyle and amenities, including fly fishing, horseback riding, and Foley Family wines, all within a private 30,000-acre property.

About

Rock Creek Cattle Company is a private, Tom Doak-designed championship course set against Montana’s Flint Creek Range. Opened in 2008, the course stretches over 7,400 yards through rugged mountain terrain, with dramatic elevation changes and Rock Creek coming into play. Routinely ranked among the top 100 courses globally, it offers an exclusive, natural Montana golf experience.

Caddie Tip

Stay mindful of elevation changes and how the mountain air affects club selection. On several approach shots, balls are prone to carry further than anticipated. Make smart decisions near Rock Creek and embrace conservative lines if it’s your first visit, as aggressive play can be penal on the undulating Doak greens.

The Main Challenge

Navigating striking elevation changes while managing swirling mountain winds is a constant test. Tight approaches require trajectory control and distance discipline, especially where Rock Creek comes into play. The well-defended greens and strategic bunkering reward precise iron play and thoughtful course management throughout the round.

The Good

Golfers frequently cite the secluded mountain beauty and Tom Doak’s masterful routing as the course’s best aspects. The views of the Flint Creek Range, frequent encounters with Rock Creek, and the natural feel of the shaping and fescue roughs make it a truly immersive Montana experience.

The Not So Good

Some players mention the limited access, as it is private with guest privileges only, and occasional difficulty in recovering errant shots from deep native rough or creek areas. Those unfamiliar with elevation changes sometimes struggle to adjust, and first-timers may require more local knowledge to fully enjoy the layout.
