Course Report

The course covers more than 600 acres, making it one of the largest single golf courses in the Pacific Northwest.

About

Circling Raven Golf Club, designed by Gene Bates, is an acclaimed 18-hole course sprawled over 620 acres of wetlands, woodlands, and native Palouse prairie. Renowned for its stunning setting and strategic layout, the course delivers a memorable challenge for all skill levels. As part of the Coeur d’Alene Casino Resort, it consistently ranks among the best resort courses in the United States.

Caddie Tip

Take time to study each hole’s unique terrain—be mindful of shifting winds from the open Palouse stretches to the sheltered woodland corridors. The native grasses penalize stray shots; favor conservative club choices off the tee, especially on the front nine’s forced carries and tight landing zones.

The Main Challenge

The toughest challenge at Circling Raven lies in its strategic forced carries, frequent winds, and the variety of terrain. Many greens are well-defended by bunkers and water, while long native grasses and wetlands wait to collect errant shots. The isolation and variety of each hole force players to think carefully about every shot.

The Good

Golfers rave about the dramatic variety of terrain, with holes winding through open Palouse grasslands, thick forests, and wetlands. The natural beauty, lack of surrounding development, and feeling of seclusion create a premier golf destination experience, with wildlife often on view and every hole feeling distinct.

The Not So Good

Some players wish for improved consistency in bunker conditions and note that the rough can be especially penal in late summer. The long distances between greens and tees make walking impractical, and there are occasional pace-of-play slowdowns on busy weekends.

Signature Hole:

#

8

No items found.

The par-4 8th is the signature hole, framed by native pine trees and a forced carry over tall prairie grasses. At 386 yards, it challenges golfers with its sloping fairway and treacherous right-side bunkers, while natural wetlands loom behind the green to punish aggressive approach shots. Accuracy and smart club selection are crucial off both tee and approach.

Clubhouse

No items found.

A spacious clubhouse offers the Twisted Earth restaurant and bar, a well-stocked pro shop, locker rooms, and event spaces. As part of the Coeur d’Alene Casino Resort, guests also have access to spa services, lodging, restaurants, and entertainment options.

Practice Facilities

No items found.

Expect a full-length driving range with target greens, extensive short game area, and large putting green. Instruction from professional staff is available, and rental clubs are on hand. The facilities support group outings and tournament events as well.
