About

Country Club of Detroit is a historic private club featuring an acclaimed parkland course designed by Harry S. Colt with later input from C.H. Alison, Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Jr., and Tom Doak. The course provides a challenging, classic layout with impeccably maintained greens and fairways, set in a prestigious setting with distinguished membership. The club spans 240 acres and maintains an exclusive, tradition-rich atmosphere.

Caddie Tip

Focus on placement off the tee—many holes at CCD require strategic angles into fast, undulating greens. The greens are challenging and subtle, so favor approaches below the hole. Many long and mid-irons are needed, and staying below the hole will leave much easier putts.

The Main Challenge

The toughest challenge is CCD’s subtle, high-speed greens, which demand precise approach shots and excellent short game. Long par 4s and deep bunkering place a premium on accuracy. Fast, sloping greens reward only the most deft putting and chipping.

The Good

Golfers love the blend of strategic challenge and beautiful classic parkland setting at CCD, with greens that are consistently ranked among the best in Michigan. The club's storied history, elegant clubhouse, and immaculately maintained grounds add to a timeless and prestigious golf experience for members and their guests.

The Not So Good

The club’s exclusivity means limited access for outsiders, which some see as a drawback. On the course, some find the rough to be excessively penal in the high season, and a few members wish for even more architectural variety on the back nine.
