Course Report
Dakota Dunes Golf Links is the only Graham Cooke, Cooke-Carleton designed course in Saskatchewan and hosted the annual Mackenzie Tour – PGA Tour Canada stop in the province for many years.
About
Dakota Dunes Golf Links, designed by Graham Cooke and Cooke-Carleton, is consistently ranked as Saskatchewan’s premier public golf course. Located on the Whitecap Dakota First Nation, it features firm, sandy terrain and wide fairways, blending seamlessly into the surrounding natural dunes. The property offers a full-service clubhouse and driving range, with 18 holes set against a scenic river and sand dune landscape.
Caddie Tip
Stay below the hole on most greens, as sloping and firm putting surfaces make long, downhill putts especially challenging. Watch for changes in wind direction; the wide-open setting is exposed. For newcomers, aim for conservative lines off the tee as fairways can look deceptively generous but run close to trouble in outlying sandy waste areas.
The Main Challenge
The toughest aspect of Dakota Dunes Golf Links is managing its firm, fast playing surfaces and exposed rough areas. Strategic bunkering and rolling terrain require precise club selection and ball placement, especially with wind as a frequent factor. The closing stretch demands accuracy under pressure, with large greens and subtle contours.
The Good
Golfers consistently praise Dakota Dunes Golf Links for its natural, links-style layout and championship-level conditioning. The open fairways, sandy terrain, and excellent greens combine to provide a memorable experience. Its proximity to the resort and casino adds to the appeal, creating a destination feel without sacrificing accessibility.
The Not So Good
While overall course conditions are regarded highly, players note that windy days can make play difficult and the open landscape sometimes exposes golfers to variable weather. Some wish bunkers and sandy waste areas were maintained more consistently, and that signage for finding holes could be improved for first-time visitors.
