Course Report

Dom Pedro Old Course was among the first in the world to receive ISO 14001 environmental certification for sustainable golf course management.

About

Dom Pedro Old Course, designed by Frank Pennink, is one of the most iconic courses in Portugal. Opened in 1969 and set among mature pine trees, it is renowned for its challenging parkland layout and consistent conditioning. Renovated in 1997, the course blends classic design with modern playability, offering a premier golf experience in the Algarve.

Caddie Tip

Save your driver for select holes—many fairways are lined with mature pines. On the par-3 4th, opt for one more club than the yardage measures to account for wind above the trees. Focus on lag putting, as large greens have subtle undulation throughout.

The Main Challenge

The toughest test on the Old Course is demanding accuracy on tight, tree-lined fairways where wayward drives are heavily penalized. Small landing zones and strategically bunkered greens reward conservative strategy, while occasional wind shifts force shot-making adjustments throughout the round.

The Good

Golfers consistently praise the strategic routing through towering pine trees and classic parkland setting. The tranquil natural surroundings and meticulous maintenance give the course a timeless charm, while the varied hole design provides both challenge for experienced players and enjoyment for casual golfers.

The Not So Good

Some visitors mention slower pace of play during peak months, particularly in high season. There can also be occasional wear spots in high-traffic areas near greens. A few guests suggest more shaded rest stops and enhanced on-course signage to improve navigation.
