Course Report

Edgewood Golf Course is the only course in the Fargo-Moorhead area set along the Red River, giving it unique floodplain terrain and memorable seasonal views.

About

Edgewood Golf Course, Fargo’s oldest public layout, is a classic parkland course set alongside the Red River. Designed in 1928, it features mature trees, tight fairways, challenging greens, and plenty of bunkers. Voted one of Golf Digest’s Best Places to Play, Edgewood offers scenic river views and is a top choice for local golfers seeking a memorable experience.

Caddie Tip

Stay below the hole on approaches, as Edgewood’s greens are subtly sloped and can be quick—especially in summer. The fairways are tree-lined and narrow, so leave the driver in the bag on shorter par 4s and focus on positioning. Pay close attention to pin placements, as raised greens make up-and-downs difficult.

The Main Challenge

Edgewood challenges players with tight, tree-lined fairways and sloped, fast greens that quickly punish errant approaches. The several dogleg holes require precision tee shots and smart club selection, while mature trees make recovery difficult. When the wind picks up off the river, the track becomes even tougher.

The Good

Golfers rave about the peaceful, scenic setting beside the Red River and the mature tree-lined fairways, which give each hole a secluded, classic feel. The course’s layout requires thought on every shot, rewarding control and finesse over raw power. Edgewood’s friendly vibe and excellent value keep locals coming back throughout the season.

The Not So Good

Some golfers note that occasional spring and summer flooding can impact course conditions, particularly in the lower-lying stretches. A few fairways can get wet and soft during rainy spells, and early-spring opening dates are highly weather dependent. Bunker consistency and tee box leveling are periodic maintenance goals.
