Course Report
Fargo Country Club is the oldest golf club in North Dakota and has a 128-yard '19th hole' used as a bonus challenge hole for fun and skills contests.
About
Fargo Country Club, designed by Robert Bruce Harris in 1963, is North Dakota’s oldest and most prestigious private golf club. The 18-hole championship course stretches nearly 7,000 yards along the Red River and is complemented by a 9-hole executive course and premium practice facilities. Renowned for its immaculate conditioning, tree-lined fairways, and historic setting, it is often ranked the top private club in the state.
Caddie Tip
Accuracy off the tee is essential due to mature tree lines and strategic bunkering, especially on several back-nine holes which border the Red River. Approach shots should favor the safe side, as the greens are well protected and can run firm and fast, especially during peak summer months. Make the most of the short-game practice area before your round.
The Main Challenge
The toughest challenge at Fargo Country Club is navigating the mature tree-lined fairways and small, elevated greens, especially as the course hugs the Red River on the inward nine. Narrow driving corridors demand precision, while the subtly contoured greens test any short game weaknesses—especially when the wind is up.
The Good
Golfers consistently praise the course’s immaculate conditions, friendly professional staff, and classic parkland routing that provides a fair but challenging test for all skill levels. The tranquil setting along the Red River, as well as the impressive clubhouse amenities and robust junior golf programs, further enrich the experience.
The Not So Good
Members and guests sometimes note that course drainage can be tested after heavy rainfall, particularly in low-lying fairways near the river. There can be slow play during peak weekend hours due to strong membership participation, and tee time availability is limited for non-members.
