Course Report

The course is set against the Glade Creek Gorge and frequently features blooming rhododendrons in spring, making for some of the region’s most colorful mountain golf scenery.

About

Woodhaven, designed in 2010 by Tom Clark, is a dramatic, modern mountain course at Glade Springs Resort. It features two contrasting nine-hole loops, one winding along Glade Creek Gorge and the other through a tight, forested valley. The layout is known for its bold elevation changes, target-driven golf, strategic challenges, and memorable natural rock settings.

Caddie Tip

Play conservatively off the tee on tight holes, especially the 8th and back-nine valley holes. Club selection is crucial because of dramatic elevation changes. Misses around the green are penal, so focus on placement and consider using a hybrid on short par 4s for better accuracy.

The Main Challenge

The course is defined by precision-demanding target golf and significant elevation changes. The back nine, cut through deep woods and valleys, tests accuracy off the tee and punishes errant shots. Several forced carries require both power and nerve, especially for mid- to high-handicap golfers.

The Good

Golfers love the dramatic setting across Glade Creek Gorge, with several holes perched on ledges and cresting natural swales. The design variety and scenic beauty, especially in spring and early summer when wildflowers bloom, give the Woodhaven Course distinct appeal among mountain courses.

The Not So Good

Some golfers have complained about inconsistent greens, particularly after recent aeration, and the need for improved green recovery in summer months. The highly challenging layout can frustrate higher handicappers due to the forced carries and narrow valley holes.

Signature Hole:

#

8

No items found.

The par-4 8th is the signature hole, requiring a bold carry over a ravine from the tee. The fairway doglegs sharply left, demanding a well-placed drive for a clear second shot. This risk-reward design is both scenic and challenging, with steep drops and dense woods framing every view.

Clubhouse

No items found.

The clubhouse features a casual grill, locker rooms, a stocked pro shop, and outdoor patio seating with views over the valley. Rentals, lessons, and club fitting are available. Hospitality is friendly and geared to groups, though amenities are simpler than the flagship Cobb Clubhouse.

Practice Facilities

No items found.

Players can warm up at a modern practice range with grass tees and multiple target greens. The short game area includes bunkers and a sizable putting green, though some visitors wish for larger chipping zones.
