Course Report
Hidden Creek is the only New Jersey course by renowned architects Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw and features onsite mansion-style lodging with 44 guest bedrooms.
About
Hidden Creek Golf Club in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, is a standout Coore & Crenshaw design opened in 2002. Known for its wide fairways, distinct holes set through ancient woodlands, and outstanding bentgrass conditioning, it's consistently ranked among the top 20 in New Jersey and top 150 modern courses nationally. Exclusivity and a tranquil woodland setting await Dormie Network members.
Caddie Tip
Play strategically, as the course features wide fairways but challenges arise with large, contoured greens and natural bunkering. Position drives to give the best angle to the deep and well-protected greens. Pay close attention to pin placements; approach shots that miss on the short side are often difficult to recover, especially in dry, fast summer conditions.
The Main Challenge
Hidden Creek is a true second-shot course; many holes demand well-considered approaches to large, undulating greens that are often guarded by natural-looking bunkers and run-off areas. Strategic course management is required to score, especially on windy days when the gently rolling terrain makes judging distance and trajectory a challenge.
The Good
Golfers rave about the constant sense of seclusion, tranquil woodland ambiance, and the strategic design from Coore & Crenshaw, which rewards thoughtful shotmaking over brute strength. The course layout provides memorable variety, exciting visuals, and outstanding bentgrass conditioning, consistently ranking it among the best in New Jersey.
The Not So Good
Some visitors wish for even greater views or striking scenery, as the woodland setting occasionally feels repetitive over 18 holes. Others note that the exclusivity of Dormie Network membership means opportunities to play are limited for non-members. In rare cases, playability can be challenged by wet conditions due to its inland location.
