Course Report

Jakobsberg is ranked among the top 10 courses in Germany and offers views of the historic Marksburg Castle from several holes, especially from the first tee.

About

Jakobsberg Golf- und Land Club is an 18-hole, par-72 public parkland course atop a plateau overlooking the Rhine Valley, designed in the style of Robert Trent Jones Jr. with contributions from Wolfgang Jarsombek. The layout is known for undulating fairways, strategic bunkering, variety, and fast, contoured greens with dramatic river and castle views. All skill levels are welcome.

Caddie Tip

Aim conservatively on holes 3 and 6 to avoid their dramatic gorges. Use a club that guarantees clearing the hazard rather than pushing for distance. Greens are quick and well-contoured, so pay close attention to pin placement and play for the safer approach, especially when slopes can redirect misjudged chips.

The Main Challenge

The most challenging aspect of Jakobsberg is carrying the natural gorges on holes like 3 ('Yellow Waterloo') and 6 ('Grand Canyon'), combined with undulating fairways and fast greens demanding precision. From the tips, even single-digit handicaps must plan carefully and execute under scenic but intimidating conditions.

The Good

Golfers love the spectacular Rhine Valley views along with the well-maintained parkland layout. The variety of strategic holes—including exhilarating gorge carries and classic risk-reward options—means that every round feels fresh. The natural scenery and the ambiance provided by the adjacent Jakobsberg Hotel and resort amenities elevate the experience for visiting players.

The Not So Good

Some golfers feel the pace of play can slow on weekends due to resort traffic. Drainage on lower-lying holes may be challenged during persistent rain, causing seasonal wetness and reducing cart access. While course conditions are generally strong, some players note minor differences in fairway and rough maintenance compared to top European resort courses.

Signature Hole:

#

3

No items found.

Hole 3, a 192-meter par 3 dubbed 'Yellow Waterloo', challenges golfers with its dramatic tee shot over a gorge to a narrow, undulating green. The exposed location, elevation change, and pressure to carry the hazard make for a thrilling and picturesque shot, regularly cited as the course's most memorable highlight.

Clubhouse

No items found.

Expect a modern clubhouse with a lounge, bar, restaurant (Golf Bistro), locker rooms, showers, sauna, spa, and space for banquets or conferences. Additional facilities include a birdie card system, pro shop, credit card acceptance, and access to the adjacent hotel with wellness and recreation options.

Practice Facilities

Jakobsberg offers a large driving range with 20 tees (5 covered), putting, pitching, and chipping greens, and a practice bunker. There’s also a golf school on-site with teaching professionals, rental equipment, and nearby hotel access for full resort-style preparation.
