Course Report
Jay Peak Resort Golf Course sits on a mountainside site once home to dairy cattle before it became a golf and ski destination for outdoor lovers.
About
Carved through dense Northern Vermont forest, the 18-hole Jay Peak Resort Golf Course was designed by Graham Cooke and opened in 2006. Known for mountain vistas, wildlife, challenging elevation changes, and generous fairways, Jay Peak offers a balance of beauty and test for players of all ability levels. The course repeatedly ranks among Vermont’s top public golf destinations.
Caddie Tip
Jay Peak’s elevation changes make club selection crucial—shots play shorter or longer depending on the hole and wind. Stay below the hole on most greens, as false fronts and mountain slopes make for tricky chips and putts. The par-5 7th rewards a bold drive, but play safe if the wind is up.
The Main Challenge
Managing elevation changes and adapting to mountain winds is essential at Jay Peak. Dense forest lines most fairways, punishing inaccuracy. The course combines uphill and downhill tee shots and approaches, and many greens are elevated or protected by bunkers, requiring precision and good judgment throughout.
The Good
Golfers love the dramatic elevation changes and panoramic mountain views, which create a memorable experience uncommon in New England. The design makes strong use of natural water features, native woodland, and wildlife, ensuring a round full of variety and lasting impressions, highlighted by courteous staff and an unhurried mountain ambiance.
The Not So Good
Players sometimes mention slow greens after heavy rain and occasional uneven lies due to the rugged terrain. Tee times can be limited on busy summer weekends, and a few holes can punish errant drives heavily, reducing playability for higher handicappers.
Signature Hole:
#
7
The 7th hole, a par 5, plays downhill with dramatic mountain vistas including Jay Peak in the backdrop. Risk-reward choices off the tee, native woodland encroachment, and a well-guarded green make this a standout hole, both visually and strategically. Widely considered the course's highlight and most photographed hole.
Clubhouse
The clubhouse includes a pro shop with apparel and equipment, locker rooms, a bar and grill overlooking the course, banquet/event spaces, and terrace seating for mountain views. Additional amenities at the resort include a waterpark, spa, and various lodging options.
Practice Facilities
The resort offers a well-maintained full driving range, large putting green, and short game area. There are also instructional programs led by PGA professionals and equipment rentals available. Practice areas are conveniently located near the clubhouse.
