Course Report
The course has hosted the LPGA Tour’s LOTTE Championship and events featuring golf legends like Annika Sorenstam, Nelly Korda, and Fred Couples.
About
Kapolei Golf Club, designed by Ted Robinson and opened in 1995, is a public championship course that winds over 190 acres of former sugar cane fields. Known for its floral gardens, elevated greens, 80 bunkers, and five lakes, the course offers a visually stunning and strategic challenge. It has hosted top professional tournaments, including LPGA and PGA Tour Champions events.
Caddie Tip
Play conservatively on approach shots, favoring the center of greens. Many holes feature subtle elevation changes and water hazards that come into play more than they appear from the tee. Take extra care reading putts on the smooth Paspalum greens, and stay below the hole for best scoring chances.
The Main Challenge
Kapolei’s main challenge lies in its strategic bunkering—over 80 in total—and numerous water hazards that force precise shot placement on several holes. The elevated greens are well-protected and can be difficult to hold, making approach shots critical for scoring well.
The Good
Golfers love the course’s lush, garden-like tropical setting with colorful plantings, rolling fairways, and mountain views. The diverse shot values created by well-placed bunkers and water hazards make each hole interesting, while strong professional tournament pedigree adds to the excitement and appeal of every round.
The Not So Good
Some golfers mention that pace of play can slow down during peak times, particularly on weekends and tournament days. Additionally, a few guests feel that course conditions can vary seasonally with heavy usage and weather, and would like to see more consistent fairway maintenance.
Signature Hole:
#
18
The 18th hole at Kapolei Golf Club is a par 4 finishing hole that demands accuracy off the tee and precision on the approach. Bordered by water along one side and guarded by bunkers, this hole tests golfers’ nerves and skill as they close out their round in view of the spacious clubhouse and panoramic Oahu scenery.
Clubhouse
The clubhouse features a well-stocked golf shop, locker rooms, showers, banquet and conference facilities, and an on-site restaurant and bar (open select days). Golfers can relax with post-round drinks or meals in a comfortable, scenic environment overlooking the course.
Practice Facilities
Kapolei Golf Club offers a full grass driving range, expansive putting green, and short game area for warm-up and game improvement. The spacious pro shop and locker room facilities make it easy for guests to prepare for their round.
