Course Report

The course is home to over 100 scarlet macaws, part of a reintroduction project bringing these birds back to the Nicoya Peninsula after local extinction over 30 years ago.

About

Los Delfines Golf and Country Club is a scenic, tropical 18-hole parkland course originally built by the Barceló Group and remodeled by Ulrich Lang. It’s situated near Playa Tambor and is well known for its relaxed playability, moderate challenge, and unique local wildlife including a large colony of scarlet macaws.

Caddie Tip

Focus on accuracy from the tee, as strategic water hazards, undulating fairways, and mature trees are present. Greens tend to run true but can be tricky if wet. Bring extra balls—wildlife, especially macaws, may pick up stray balls near trees.

The Main Challenge

The moderate length and undulating terrain offer a fair test, but well-placed water hazards and mature trees require strategic course management. The tropical climate means weather and softer turf can play a role in course difficulty, particularly after rain.

The Good

Golfers love the tranquil, wildlife-rich setting, playing surrounded by tropical flora and free-roaming macaws. The course presents a peaceful escape from busier resorts, and the proximity to the beach adds significant appeal, making for a memorable Costa Rican golf experience.

The Not So Good

Golfers sometimes mention that conditioning, especially greens and fairways, can be inconsistent during the rainy season, leading to softer lies and slower green speeds. Some would like to see expanded amenities and improved drainage in key areas.
