Course Report

It is affectionately called 'La Catedral del Golf' ('The Cathedral'), a nod to its status as Argentina's most historic and prestigious course.

About

Founded in 1900 and designed by Juan Dentone, Mar del Plata Golf Club is an iconic links-style course along the Atlantic coast. Famous for its sharp elevation changes, sea views, and challenging winds, the course features firm, fast greens and is locally known as 'The Cathedral.' Its beautiful Tudor-style clubhouse is an architectural landmark.

Caddie Tip

Always pay attention to wind direction, especially on approaches and putts. On the 8th hole, favor the left side and avoid missing right at all costs; distance control is crucial due to elevation changes. Greens tend to be quick and always break toward the sea, even on seemingly flat lines.

The Main Challenge

The constant, often strong, coastal winds challenge golfers on every shot, requiring careful club selection and low ball flights. Narrow fairways, undulating terrain, and small, fast greens demand precision. Sloping lies and elevation changes test players' control and imagination on approaches.

The Good

The dramatic setting perched above the harbor offers sweeping ocean views and constant breezes. Golfers love the course's firm fairways, challenging yet engaging green complexes, and historical ambiance, making every round a special experience. The clubhouse offers an excellent atmosphere to relax and appreciate classic Argentine golf culture.

The Not So Good

While beautiful and strategic, the course can play quite short for strong hitters. Some guests find the routing a bit congested due to its compact footprint, and local weather can result in tough playing conditions during windy spells.

Signature Hole:

#

8

No items found.

The par 3 8th, only 126 yards, is renowned as one of the world's toughest short holes. With a tiny green sloping hard to the sea, deep bunkers left, and a 60-foot drop right, wind often forces players to hit up to a 5-iron. Missing the green here nearly guarantees a bogey or worse.

Clubhouse

No items found.

The Tudor-style clubhouse is praised for its charm and hospitality. Amenities include a full-service restaurant, locker rooms, pro shop, and lovely terraces overlooking the course and harbor. Members and guests are well catered for in a welcoming setting.

Practice Facilities

No items found.

The club features a six-hole academy course ideal for kids and beginners, as well as a short-game area, practice putting green, and basic driving range. Facilities focus on shotmaking and skill development rather than pure length.
