Course Report
The Creek Course at Moose Run is the longest layout in Alaska and part of the northernmost 36-hole golf complex in the world.
About
Moose Run Golf Course – Creek, designed by Robin Nelson and opened in 2000, is Alaska's longest course at 7,324 yards. Set at the foot of the Chugach Mountains, the course features dramatic Alaskan scenery and uses native timber as its main hazard. The Creek is regarded for its challenging layout and natural beauty, attracting locals and visitors alike.
Caddie Tip
Prioritize accuracy over distance—native Alaskan forest lines many fairways, and errant shots are often unrecoverable. Lay up when unsure, especially on the split fairways and long holes. Watch for challenging doglegs and play for angles, not just length, to maximize scoring chances.
The Main Challenge
Accuracy is essential, as wayward shots are frequently lost in thick woods. The lengthy par 5s, particularly the 11th hole, challenge even long hitters, while doglegs and strategic fairway splits force tough decisions. Changing wind and local hazards add to the test.
The Good
Golfers rave about the Creek Course's dramatic scenery, with holes carved through mature Alaskan forest and mountain views in every direction. The natural setting, wildlife sightings, and peaceful atmosphere give every round a distinctive, memorable character unique to Alaska.
The Not So Good
Players often mention the variable conditioning, noting that fairways and greens can fluctuate due to Alaska’s brief growing season and unpredictable weather. Some also cite the lack of yardage info on carts as a minor frustration, and occasional wildlife delays.
Signature Hole:
#
11
The par 5 11th is the state's longest hole at 640 yards, playing through reclaimed gravel pits and framed by Alaskan wilderness. Its sheer length and strategic demands, along with elevated tees and natural hazards, make it a standout challenge and a memorable test for all skill levels.
Clubhouse
Expect a full-service clubhouse with a spacious pro shop, equipment rentals, locker rooms, and an upstairs restaurant/bar popular for post-round gatherings. Staff are known for their hospitality, and both military and civilian guests are welcomed.
Practice Facilities
The facility offers a driving range, practice putting green, and short game area. Ample space and scenic views make it easy for players to warm up or fine-tune skills before their round, accommodating all skill levels and practice needs.
