Course Report
Moscow Country Club was Russia’s first 18-hole golf course and one of the region’s original international-standard layouts, helping launch the country’s modern golf era.
About
Moscow Country Club, designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr., is Russia's oldest 18-hole championship course. Situated within a vast pine and birch forest, the parkland layout offers challenging water hazards, strategic design, and a rich tournament history as host of the Russian Open.
Caddie Tip
Play conservatively on water-heavy holes such as the 5th and 17th; club selection is vital due to swirling woodland winds. If it's your first visit, walk the course to study subtle slopes on the greens and tricky doglegs hiding between towering pines.
The Main Challenge
The greatest challenge is the strategic use of water on nearly half of the holes. Hidden lakes, winding streams, and dense tree corridors require disciplined shot planning and precise ball flight to score well—especially during the Russian Open tournament setups.
The Good
Golfers praise the peaceful, wooded scenery that offers quiet seclusion just outside the bustle of Moscow. The layout’s clever routing keeps each hole framed by tall pines and birches, creating a tranquil, immersive golfing environment admired for its natural Russian character and absence of visual noise.
The Not So Good
Although highly regarded, members often note pace-of-play slowdowns during busy tournament days and wish for improved drainage after heavy rains. Additionally, some guests report the strict member access limits outside hotel stays can reduce broader play opportunity.
Signature Hole:
#
5
The signature hole is the par 5 5th, stretching 576 yards, where water hazards dominate play. Accuracy on both the drive and approach is essential as water guards much of the fairway and the green, offering a classic risk-reward decision for those seeking birdie.
Clubhouse
The clubhouse boasts an elegant restaurant with panoramic woods and course views, a bar, luxurious locker rooms, a golf shop, lounges, spa, fitness center, hotel, and other resort amenities for members and resort guests.
Practice Facilities
Facilities include a full driving range, several putting and chipping greens, a dedicated short game area, and indoor simulators available during winter months. Onsite instruction, junior programs, and rental equipment are also available year-round for both novices and experienced players.
Dress Code:
