Course Report

Neshanic Valley hosts major amateur events including the USGA Women's Public Links Championship, making it one of the top municipal courses in the country.

About

Neshanic Valley Golf Course, designed by Dana Fry and Dr. Michael Hurdzan, is a 27-hole public municipal course located in Neshanic Station, New Jersey. Opened in 2004 and operated by Somerset County, it features three nines and a 9-hole short Academy Course, with superb practice facilities and a modern clubhouse overlooking scenic farmland and the Sourland Mountains.

Caddie Tip

Take a conservative strategy on holes with wetland hazards and fescue off the fairway. On the signature 18th, favor the left side on your drive for a safe second shot; beware the ravine and bunkers when approaching the green, which is heavily sloped and demands precise putting.

The Main Challenge

The greatest challenge at Neshanic Valley comes from its subtle elevation changes, fescue roughs bordering generous fairways, and environmentally sensitive wetland hazards. Approach shots can be demanding, with bunkering and contoured greens that punish careless play. The closing holes require precision and nerve, especially on windy afternoons.

The Good

Golfers consistently praise Neshanic Valley’s diverse layout, strong conditions, and top-notch practice facilities. The flexible combinations of nines and an open routing allow for a varied experience and solid replay value. The scenic farmland views and stately clubhouse add further appeal for visitors.

The Not So Good

Tee times can be difficult to secure, especially on weekends, and some players note blandness on a few holes lacking distinctive features. Greens can become firm and fast in hot summer months, making approach shots tricky and occasionally frustrating for high handicappers.

Signature Hole:

#

18

No items found.

The 18th hole on the Lake Course is a par 5, stretching 495 yards from an elevated tee. It's memorable for its sweeping fairway, strategic bunkers, ravine hazard, and a severely sloped green. Golfers face risk-reward decisions on their approach amidst beautiful valley views, making it the standout finish at Neshanic Valley.

Clubhouse

No items found.

The 12,000 square foot clubhouse includes a pro shop stocked with top golf apparel, the Grille Room for food and drinks, banquet rooms for events, and an outdoor deck with panoramic course and valley views. Locker rooms and event spaces are modern and well maintained.

Practice Facilities
