Course Report

New Kuta Golf was the first course in Indonesia built in a true links style and hosted the Indonesia Open co-sanctioned by the European Tour and Asian Tour in 2009.

About

New Kuta Golf is the first links-style course in Indonesia, perched atop limestone cliffs overlooking the Indian Ocean in Bali. Designed by Ronald Fream, David Dale, and Kevin Ramsey, it features five sets of tees, natural desert-like vegetation, and dramatic views. The course challenges all skill levels and has hosted major Asian golf championships.

Caddie Tip

Caddies are knowledgeable about the swirling coastal winds, which can make club selection tricky—especially on holes along the cliffs. Trust their advice when playing near cliff edges; aim for the center of greens, as gusts often push shots offline near the ocean. On inland holes, avoid running through fairways into rock outcroppings.

The Main Challenge

The most formidable challenge is the stretch along the ocean from holes 12–16, where gusty ocean winds, firm turf, and exposed cliffs demand precise shot-making and club selection. Errant shots can be heavily penalized, and the greens are well-protected by bunkers and natural hazards.

The Good

Golfers rave about the views from cliffside holes and the challenging, wind-swept layout that stays interesting from start to finish. The unique setting, dramatic elevation changes, and ambiance of Balangan Bay and Indian Ocean make every round memorable, while the clubhouse provides a relaxing retreat after play.

The Not So Good

Players have noted that greens sometimes suffer from maintenance issues and renovations, impacting putting quality. There can be construction around the facility and occasional makeshift tee boxes, leading some to wish for greater consistency in course conditions, especially during transition periods.
