Course Report

Oak Tree’s East Course is known for hosting the Oklahoma Open and for a legacy of professional champions crowned on its demanding layout.

About

Oak Tree Golf Club (East Course), designed by Pete Dye in 1976, is a demanding private championship layout in Edmond, Oklahoma. Noted for its bunker-strewn fairways, punishing water hazards, and rolling topography, it annually hosts the Oklahoma Open and is recognized as the tougher of Oak Tree’s two courses. The East challenges even experienced players and remains highly regarded among private courses in the region.

Caddie Tip

Play conservatively off the tee, particularly on the front side’s lengthy par 4s and the water-heavy closing stretch. Stay below the hole on greens with subtle dye contours, and favor safe play on approach shots when water is in play—especially on the decisive last six holes.

The Main Challenge

The greatest challenge is Oak Tree East’s closing six-hole stretch, where water hazards confront nearly every shot and strong winds often intensify the demands. Approach shots must be accurate to avoid penal rough and bunkers, while putting requires a deft touch on subtly undulating greens. It’s a true test under pressure.

The Good

Golfers praise the superb Pete Dye design, particularly the strategic layout, well-placed bunkers, and the memorable water features on the closing stretch. The course provides a rewarding, tournament-caliber experience and is considered a true test for serious players, hosting some of the region’s top events.

The Not So Good

Some members note the challenging pace of play on busy days, especially during tournaments, and wish for occasional updates to certain bunkers or greens. Consistent feedback highlights a desire for increased practice area size and further modernization of player amenities to match elite club expectations.
