Course Report

PGA Sweden National Lakes has been named Sweden’s best golf club multiple times and has hosted top professional events, including the Scandinavian Masters.

About

Designed by renowned architect Kyle Phillips and opened in 2009, the Lakes Course at PGA Sweden National offers a challenging yet rewarding test with small, firm bentgrass greens, large bunkers, and numerous water hazards. Set on the former grounds of Torup castle, this tournament-caliber course is a favorite among discerning golfers and frequently recognized as one of Sweden’s finest.

Caddie Tip

Aim for the wider portions of fairways, especially on longer holes exposed to wind. Approaches are best kept below the hole given the small, fast, contoured greens, and the finish requires nerve—plan your layup placement on 18 carefully to avoid an awkward angle over water.

The Main Challenge

Water hazards pose a constant threat, especially on the back nine, with swirling winds increasing difficulty. Small, slick greens demand precise approaches and excellent putting. The closing holes, particularly 17 and 18, require strategic risk-taking and penalize poor decision-making or execution.

The Good

Golfers love the championship-caliber layout, especially the variety of holes with strategic bunkering, water hazards, and fast, true greens. The course’s finishing stretch, with its scenic lakeside holes and the impressive clubhouse backdrop, delivers a memorable conclusion and world-class atmosphere.

The Not So Good

Some golfers mention that the course can become very difficult and slow-paced in high wind, and the resort-style setup can feel impersonal during peak times. Occasional drainage issues around lake-adjacent fairways have been cited after heavy rain, affecting playing conditions.

The 18th hole, a par 4 finishing beside the vast man-made lake and the clubhouse, features water guarding the approach and an amphitheater feel. Players must strategize their tee shot to safely set up a demanding uphill second over water, where club selection and wind are paramount for securing a memorable finish.

The modern clubhouse features 16 suites, a fine restaurant, bar, fully equipped locker rooms, and a well-stocked pro shop. Guests can enjoy panoramic terrace views and attentive hospitality, with amenities designed for comfort after a round or an extended golf stay.
