About

Kingsbarns Golf Links, Phillips' first solo design, was rated 'Best New International Course' by Golf Digest and compared to Pebble Beach for its significance to modern links golf.

Kyle Phillips is a renowned American golf course architect born in 1958 in Atlanta, Georgia. With over 30 years of experience, Phillips is celebrated for designs influenced by the landforms and strategic qualities of classic links and heathland courses, especially those of the British Isles. After graduating with a degree in Landscape Architecture from Kansas State University in 1981, he began his career working with Robert Trent Jones II, eventually rising to Vice President.

Phillips worked extensively across Europe and the Caribbean during his time with RTJ II, gaining valuable exposure to traditional golf landscapes which deeply influenced his design philosophy. In 1997, he founded his own company, Kyle Phillips Golf Course Design, where he has crafted over 30 courses worldwide, each known for its unique character, natural features, and seamless integration into the surrounding environment.

Some of Phillips' most acclaimed projects include Kingsbarns Golf Links in Scotland, a modern classic hailed as one of the best new international courses, Yas Links in Abu Dhabi, and Club de Golf Valderrama in Spain. His work has hosted over 50 international professional tour events, including prestigious tournaments like The President’s Cup and The Women’s British Open. Phillips is widely regarded as one of the leading modern golf course designers today.
