Course Report
Phoenix Golf Resort is listed in the Vietnam Guinness Book of World Records as the country’s largest golf facility and is often called 'Halong Bay on Land' due to its iconic limestone formations.
About
Phoenix Golf Resort (Phoenix Course) is one of Vietnam's largest golf facilities, designed by Ronald Fream. Routed dramatically among limestone karsts and hilly terrain, it offers a memorable experience with bold elevation changes and views reminiscent of Ha Long Bay inland. A modern, large clubhouse and solid practice facilities complement the course's challenging layout and scenic splendor.
Caddie Tip
Local caddies typically advise playing for the wider sections of fairways due to the dramatic elevation changes and visually intimidating tee shots. Approach shots tend to play longer because of swirling valley winds—trust your caddie’s reads on breaks and green speeds across heavily contoured putting surfaces.
The Main Challenge
The most demanding aspect of the Phoenix Course is navigating narrow, undulating fairways framed by steep limestone cliffs and significant elevation changes. Errant shots frequently find trouble, and gusty valley winds can transform approach shots into difficult tests that challenge both club selection and nerve, especially on the finishing stretch.
The Good
Golfers rave about the mesmerizing scenery, with rugged limestone karst cliffs shaping hole strategies and producing one-of-a-kind panoramic views. The combination of challenging elevation changes and breathtaking backdrops creates a round that is memorable from both a playing and a photographic standpoint.
The Not So Good
Some visitors note the aging condition of the clubhouse, which can feel dated, and the maintenance in some areas does not always match the spectacular natural setting. The facilities could benefit from renovations and enhanced upkeep to elevate the overall guest experience and match the caliber of the course.
Signature Hole:
#
18
The 18th hole is a long par 4, finishing beside the clubhouse and guarded by a deep watery ravine on the front left of the green. This demanding closer calls for a precise approach shot, as any miss left risks finding the water. The backdrop of towering limestone cliffs adds extra drama to this finishing hole.
Clubhouse
The European-style clubhouse features locker rooms, an outdoor pool, sauna, pro shop, restaurant, and bar. While providing a comfortable pre- and post-round setting, many amenities require upgrading, especially for regular international visitors, as some areas show visible wear.
Practice Facilities
Practice amenities include a modern driving range, putting green, and dedicated short game area. Rental clubs, caddies, and electric carts are available, making it easy for guests to warm up and hone their game before tackling the main course's challenging holes.
