Course Report

The course underwent a re-routing in early 2020 that has been received with high praise, improving pace of play while maintaining the challenging character that makes it one of Massachusetts' premier public courses.

About

Designed by world-renowned architect Rees Jones in 2001, this championship course weaves dramatically through dense pine forests with undulating terrain. Part of a 36-hole facility, it offers challenging yet fair play with firm, fast greens and strategic bunkering throughout the tree-lined layout.

Caddie Tip

The course plays significantly longer than the yardage suggests due to elevation changes and thick pine rough. Focus on course management and club selection, especially on the severely right-doglegging 7th hole where the green sits almost perpendicular to the fairway. Tee it forward if in doubt, as there are substantial carries from the blue and black tees.

The Main Challenge

The combination of narrow, tree-lined fairways carved through dense pine forest with firm, fast greens and significant elevation changes creates the primary challenge. Strategic bunkering, forced carries, and small target areas demand precision while thick rough punishes errant shots severely.

The Good

The dramatic elevation changes and dense pine forest setting create a unique experience where each hole feels distinct and private. The massive elevation changes provide expansive treetop views while the challenging design keeps golfers engaged throughout the round with strategic interest on every hole.

The Not So Good

The course is not walkable due to considerable distances between some tees and previous greens, forcing all players into carts. Late-season fescue growth can create punishing lies, and the narrow fairways with thick pine rough can be unforgiving for average players seeking more playable conditions.
