Course Report
The course features five holes with views of the Atlantic Ocean, making it one of the few courses in the Caribbean to offer such seaside golf experiences.
About
Playa Dorada Golf Course, designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. in 1976, is a resort-style, par-72 course known for its wide fairways, generous greens, and water features. With several holes along the Atlantic Ocean, the course offers enjoyable play for visitors of all levels and is acclaimed for its consistently good conditions and tropical setting near Puerto Plata.
Caddie Tip
Focus on staying below the hole, as the greens are sizable and often elevated. Book an early tee time for calmer winds. Bring extra balls for the water holes, and pay close attention to pin locations on ocean-facing greens for the best approach angles.
The Main Challenge
The biggest challenge lies in the water hazards and well-placed bunkers that demand precision, especially on approach shots into the greens. The shifting coastal breezes add further difficulty, and the generous fairways can be deceptive if you stray too far off line.
The Good
Golfers love the beautiful ocean views and the consistently well-kept fairways and greens. The wide fairways provide a fair challenge to golfers of all skill levels, and the relaxed resort atmosphere makes for a memorable vacation round.
The Not So Good
Some golfers note that course signage and yardage markers could be clearer. Periods of maintenance or weather can affect certain greens, and the relatively flat terrain lacks dramatic elevation changes that some players seek.
