Course Report

Porto Carras Golf Club was the first 18-hole golf course in Greece and is situated within a resort that also produces its own wine from the on-site vineyards.

About

Porto Carras Golf Club’s Olive Grove course, originally designed by Geoff Cornish and Bill Robinson in 1974 and expanded in 2002, is one of Greece’s most scenic layouts. Set on the Sithonia peninsula among stone pines, olive trees, and bordered by the Aegean Sea, this parkland course features paspalum grass, undulating fairways, and striking views of the coastline and Domaine vineyards.

Caddie Tip

The course can play tricky due to the mix of stone pines, olive trees, and numerous bunkers, especially on the front nine. Play conservatively off the tee where accuracy trumps length, especially on dogleg holes. For first timers, keep an eye out for crosswinds near the coastline and aim for high-percentage landing areas on approach shots.

The Main Challenge

The interplay of water hazards, especially on holes 11–15, and the prevalence of mature olive and stone pine trees provide significant challenges. Wind from the Aegean can add difficulty on certain holes, and the doglegs require thoughtful shot placement. The course's moderate length is offset by the need for strategic play around the lakes and bunkers.

The Good

Golfers love the beautiful seaside and vineyard scenery combined with the welcoming, relaxed resort atmosphere. The three lakes and water features, plus panoramic mountain and Aegean views, make each round memorable. Visitors appreciate the peaceful setting and the overall playability and fun design for all abilities.

The Not So Good

While the course is praised for its scenery, many players note that maintenance standards and overall course conditioning can be inconsistent, especially during the heat of summer. Tee boxes and fairways might show signs of wear, and some areas would benefit from more consistent irrigation and attention.
