Course Report

The course was modified by Hall of Famer Hale Irwin, who also won two Boone Valley Classics here and updated the finishing holes prior to the 2007 US Junior Amateur.

About

Boone Valley Golf Club, designed by Paul Dye and extensively renovated by Hale Irwin, is a private, 18-hole course set in the rolling hills of Augusta, Missouri. Opened in 1992, it features bentgrass surfaces and a natural, rustic appeal, hosting top events like the Champions Tour's Boone Valley Classic and the US Junior Amateur Championship.

Caddie Tip

Focus on precision rather than power—the course is known for deceptively flat-looking greens and generous fairways that still demand a strategic approach. Pay special attention to the contours on the greens, as subtle breaks can turn straightforward putts into tricky challenges, especially late in the round.

The Main Challenge

Boone Valley's subtle greens and strategically placed hazards require thoughtful play on every hole, particularly in club selection and approach shots. The back nine intensifies with water hazards and bunkering that demand accuracy, punishing overly aggressive or imprecise shots.

The Good

Golfers praise the pristine bentgrass playing surfaces and the tranquil, natural Midwest setting. The calming scenery and strategic design elements make each round engaging and enjoyable, with challenging but fair holes that suit both seasoned and skilled enthusiasts.

The Not So Good

Being highly private, some wish for greater access to non-members and tournament play. Others occasionally note that certain areas can be penal for offline drives, and the challenge can be intimidating for higher-handicap players. Expanded amenities beyond the clubhouse are also sometimes requested.
