Course Report

Prairie View hosts all major Indiana PGA and Golf Association championships and remains the only Robert Trent Jones, Jr. course in the state.

About

Prairie View Golf Club is Indiana’s only course designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr., set on 206 acres along the White River in Carmel. Known for its strategic blend of parkland and prairie landscapes, it features rolling fairways, mature oaks, streams, and natural wetlands. Praised for its challenging design and well-kept greens, Prairie View consistently ranks among Indiana’s top public courses.

Caddie Tip

Stay below the hole on approach shots, as fast and undulating greens can lead to tricky downhill putts. Pay close attention to wind direction on open prairie holes and don’t underestimate how much the native fescues and water hazards penalize wild tee shots.

The Main Challenge

The toughest part of Prairie View is navigating the diverse stretch of holes with wind exposure, water hazards, and tall native fescues swallowing errant shots. Precision off the tee and accurate approaches are crucial, especially on long par 4s and par 5s with hazards lurking on both sides.

The Good

Golfers love Prairie View for its strategic layout that forces you to use every club in the bag, as well as the scenic blend of rolling prairie, mature trees, and river views. The greens are renowned for being quick and true, and the variety of holes keeps each round fresh and memorable.

The Not So Good

Some players note that rough areas of native grass can be punishingly thick, occasionally slowing pace of play. Others would appreciate improved bunker consistency and expanded tee-time availability during peak periods.
