Course Report

The Shore Course hosted rounds of the Crosby Pro-Am (now AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am) and is regarded as Mike Strantz’s most celebrated West Coast redesign.

About

Monterey Peninsula Country Club’s Shore Course, designed by Bob E. Baldock and Jack Neville in 1960 and extensively remodeled by Mike Strantz in 2003, delivers breathtaking coastal golf with rolling fairways, windswept dunes, and extraordinary ocean vistas. Pristine conditioning, strategic bunkering, undulating greens, and a revered private-club experience make it one of California's premier destinations.

Caddie Tip

Wind is always a major factor along the coastline, so play conservatively when it’s up—especially on exposed holes. Approach shots must be carefully judged for elevation and breezes, and taking less club on downhill par-3s is often smart. Focus on positioning in fairways and avoiding the penal bunkers surrounding many greens.

The Main Challenge

Relentless wind and ever-changing coastal weather make target selection and club choice challenging on every hole. The demanding bunkering and undulating green complexes add to the difficulty, requiring resourceful shot-making and creative approaches, particularly on holes exposed to the Pacific breezes.

The Good

Golfers love the Shore Course’s panoramic Pacific Ocean views, blend of natural coastal beauty, and artful, modern routing by Mike Strantz. The variety of holes mixing dunes, forest, and shoreline, plus superb maintenance standards, create a round that is constantly memorable, even among world-class peers.

The Not So Good

Securing a tee time is extremely difficult due to private access, which limits play and makes the course inaccessible to most. Members note that strong coastal winds can make for very demanding conditions and, occasionally, overly penal play, particularly for higher handicaps.

Signature Hole:

#

11

No items found.

The par-3 11th is the Shore Course’s iconic hole, featuring an elevated tee perched atop a scenic granite outcropping. The shot plays dramatically downhill toward a green framed by the Pacific Ocean and rugged coastline, demanding both precision and nerve in the face of wind and panoramic beauty.

Clubhouse

No items found.

The clubhouse features elegant locker rooms, dining with ocean views, member lounges, and private event spaces. Service and hospitality are top-notch, with locker room attendants, golf shop, and full beverage and dining options to complement the private, exclusive club ambiance.

Practice Facilities

No items found.

The club offers a well-appointed driving range, short game area, and putting greens, all in impeccable condition. Facilities are spacious, with attentive staff available to assist. Members can expect quiet, uncrowded practice sessions and personalized instruction if desired.
