Course Report

The green of the par 3 7th hole was designed in the shape of a bear’s footprint, a tribute from Jack Nicklaus, known as the Golden Bear.

About

Punta Espada Golf Club is a spectacular Jack Nicklaus Signature design that opened in 2006 in Cap Cana. Ranked among the best in the Caribbean and frequently featured in global top-100 lists, the par-72 layout features eight holes that play along or over the Caribbean Sea, dazzling vistas, strategic bunkering, and immaculate conditioning. Host of multiple PGA Champions Tour events.

Caddie Tip

Wind is a key factor at Punta Espada. Trust your caddie’s advice on club selection, especially on holes exposed to the sea. On the demanding par 3s, play for the center of the green—missing short often means the Caribbean claims your ball. Expect fast, true greens; approach shots below the hole provide easier putts.

The Main Challenge

The course’s greatest challenge comes from swirling ocean winds and forced carries over water, especially on holes like the par 3 13th and the closing holes near the sea. Demanding angles and intimidating tee shots require good club selection and nerves, rewarding shotmakers and punishing mistakes.

The Good

Golfers rave about the views, with eight holes interacting directly with the Caribbean Sea and every hole offering ocean vistas. The dramatic shot values, stunning natural setting, and creative Nicklaus routing leave lifelong memories, turning every round into a highlight of a Dominican golf trip.

The Not So Good

Some guests mention the cost as a downside, especially for multiple rounds, and course accessibility may be limited to resort guests and those booking in advance. Pace of play can sometimes be slowed by challenging conditions and photo stops for the scenery.
