Course Report

Reserva Conchal was the first golf course in Costa Rica to earn Audubon International certification for environmental stewardship.

About

Reserva Conchal Golf Club, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., is an eco-conscious 18-hole, par-71 layout set near the Pacific Ocean’s Playa Conchal. Spanning 7,021 yards, the course features dramatic elevation changes, rolling Bermuda-greens, native forest, lakes, and abundant wildlife. Reserved for guests of the Conchal Resort, it is known for its breathtaking scenery and variety.

Caddie Tip

Focus on smart course management—elevation changes can add or subtract significant yardage. Pay close attention to the strong ocean breezes, which shift throughout the day and can transform approach shots, especially on exposed holes. Conservative play is wise on the risk-reward finishing stretch.

The Main Challenge

The most challenging aspect is the combination of elevation, wind, and water hazards. Back-nine holes, especially 16–18, are a stiff test with demanding carries, narrow landing areas, and tiered greens. The coastal breeze adds further complexity, making club selection tough.

The Good

Golfers rave about the beautiful Pacific Ocean views, native wildlife including monkeys and exotic birds, and the ability to enjoy both challenging golf and natural surroundings. Many praise the course's variety—each hole feels unique, taking advantage of dramatic terrain and scenic backdrops.

The Not So Good

Some players wish for better off-season conditioning, particularly after heavy rains. Greens can get extremely fast and firm at times, making putting challenging, while dense forest off fairways can lead to lost balls.
