Course Report

Seattle Golf Club played host to the 1961 Walker Cup and the 1952 U.S. Amateur, highlighting its longstanding importance in national amateur golf history.

About

Seattle Golf Club is a private, historic course established in 1900 and redesigned by Arnold Palmer in 1996, with further renovations by the Arnold Palmer Design Company in 2022. Featuring narrow, Douglas fir-lined fairways and well-manicured greens, it provides a challenging, strategic test for all skill levels and has hosted several prestigious amateur championships.

Caddie Tip

Focus on driving accuracy, as the course is well-guarded by narrow tree-lined corridors. Approach shots play an outsized role due to firm, quick greens. Careful club selection off tees is consistently rewarded while local knowledge helps on subtle greens.

The Main Challenge

The greatest challenge at Seattle Golf Club is the combination of strategic angles off the tee and the fast, firm Poa Annua greens. Many holes demand precise shot-shaping due to mature trees that overhang ideal landing zones, and elevation changes complicate club selection on approaches.

The Good

Members rave about the intimate, tranquil setting, as the Douglas fir-lined fairways provide a serene escape within minutes of downtown Seattle. The course delivers strategic challenges with elevation changes and consistently excellent playing conditions. The views toward Puget Sound and the Olympics from the clubhouse are also a highlight.

The Not So Good

Non-members and visiting players sometimes mention a lack of scenery variety from tee to green and would like to see more openings to Puget Sound on the course itself. Some also wish for slightly improved drainage and walkability in wet fall and early spring conditions.
