Course Report

SouthShore was the first private Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course in Nevada and boasts elevation changes of over 300 feet with panoramic views of Lake Las Vegas.

About

SouthShore Golf Club is a private Jack Nicklaus Signature design featuring dramatic elevation changes that wind through ridges and canyons above Lake Las Vegas. The par 71 course offers spectacular mountain and water views, generous fairways, and strategic bunkering. Originally opened in 1996, it is considered among Nevada’s finest private clubs—and Nicklaus’s first private design in the state.

Caddie Tip

Stay below the hole on approach shots, especially on the multi-tiered greens and uphill holes with dramatic elevation. Pay close attention to the wind direction, which can shift quickly over the canyons. When in doubt, favor accuracy over distance, as many fairways narrow quickly and feature deep bunkers or desert drop-offs.

The Main Challenge

The toughest challenges come from strategic bunkering, forced carries over canyons and water, and dramatic elevation swings. Several approach shots require precise distance control to elevated or sloping greens, and strong winds off the lake can turn otherwise routine holes into demanding tests.

The Good

Golfers consistently rave about the breathtaking scenery, especially the elevated tees and sweeping mountain and lake vistas. The final stretch, called the 'Fantastic Four,' is particularly memorable both for its challenge and beauty. The overall routing, with holes climbing ridges and diving into canyons, makes every round unique and visually stunning.

The Not So Good

Some members and guests mention that summer desert heat can affect playing conditions, especially on the back nine where shade is minimal. Occasionally, recovery from overseeding or irrigation adjustments impacts green consistency. Like most private clubs, tee time availability can be limited during peak weekends.
