Course Report
The 14th hole's floating green is computer-controlled and can be moved to vary the hole's length. Golfers ride a custom boat, 'Putter,' to reach the island when they hit the green.
About
The Coeur d'Alene Resort Golf Course, designed by Scott Miller, is renowned for its world-famous floating green. Set on Lake Coeur d'Alene's shore in the Idaho Rockies, this par-71 course delivers manicured bentgrass fairways, breathtaking lake views from every hole, and luxury forecaddie service—offering a seamless blend of scenic beauty, unique challenges, and premium resort amenities.
Caddie Tip
Precision off the tee is critical; the generous landing areas encourage bold play, but trouble lurks near the water and in deep bunkers. Trust your forecaddie’s advice for blind shots, and play conservatively on approach to the floating green—club selection and wind judgment are key to conquering this iconic par 3.
The Main Challenge
The course’s biggest challenge lies in its water hazards, tight approach angles, and the world-famous floating green. Heightened nerves on the 14th demand accuracy and calm, while strategic bunkering and subtle elevation changes reward thoughtful play. The parkland layout is playable but penalizes lapses in focus or misjudged carries.
The Good
Golfers rave about the immaculate conditioning, lake views on every hole, and the floating green experience. The overall guest service—from mahogany boat shuttles to attentive forecaddies—elevates the round into a memorable event. The blend of world-class scenery and amenities delivers an unforgettable day regardless of playing ability.
The Not So Good
Some guests find the greens fee high compared to other regional courses and occasional delays caused by the floating green logistics. Early or late season play can also encounter soggier turf or maintenance interruptions, so timing your visit can impact enjoyment. Walking is possible but less practical due to course routing.
Signature Hole:
#
14
The signature 14th is a par 3 featuring the world's only movable floating island green. Players must carry their tee shot 100–220 yards over water to a green that can be repositioned daily. After hitting the green, a boat called 'Putter' ferries golfers across, creating an unforgettable challenge and photo opportunity unique in the golf world.
Clubhouse
Guests enjoy a full-service clubhouse with upscale locker rooms, pro shop, indoor and outdoor dining overlooking the lake, and a well-equipped lounge. The resort offers spa, hotel, and marina amenities on site, creating an all-in-one hospitality experience for golfers and non-golfers alike.
Practice Facilities
Expect a lakefront driving range with floating targets, spacious putting greens, and premium practice balls included. All guests receive pre-round access and benefit from staff assistance and forecaddie guidance. The facilities are tailored for a luxury start to each round, not large-scale tournament handling.
