Course Report

The Crete Golf Club is the only 18-hole course in all of Crete, set among scenic sea and mountain panoramas and designed to blend unobtrusively with the Cretan landscape.

About

The Crete Golf Club, designed by Bob Hunt in 2003, is the only 18-hole golf course on Crete. Completely renovated in 2015, the course features modern facilities, beautiful Mediterranean scenery, and a strategic layout that blends naturally with the landscape. Located near Heraklion, the club is popular for its challenging design and year-round playability.

Caddie Tip

Take extra balls and avoid unnecessary risks on the front nine, as hazards and undulating fairways are common. Local advice: Watch for shifting winds from the nearby Lassithi plateau, which often affect approach shots, especially late in the day.

The Main Challenge

The undulating terrain and frequent changes in elevation add complexity to every hole. Wind from the Lassithi plateau is a consistent factor. Water features and strategically placed bunkers require careful shot selection, especially on the inward nine where risk increases.

The Good

Golfers rave about the panoramic mountain and sea views throughout the course. The recently renovated clubhouse, spacious terraces, and attentive service are highlights. The 18th hole, finishing beneath the terrace, provides a memorable conclusion and a perfect spot to relax with friends.

The Not So Good

Some players mention that the rough and semi-rough areas can be overly penal, particularly for mid- and high-handicap golfers. Others note that the driving range mats and some fairway areas could be better maintained, especially late in the summer season.
