Course Report
Ernie Els integrated features from prestigious courses like Royal Melbourne and Pinehurst No.2 into the design, creating a ‘desert links’ unique to Dubai.
About
The Els Club Dubai, designed by major champion Ernie Els, is Dubai’s premier desert links experience stretching over 7,500 yards. Known for its undulating fairways, classic bunkering, and Pinehurst-style greens, the club has won multiple awards for both architectural brilliance and impeccable conditions, offering year-round play and superb facilities within Dubai Sports City.
Caddie Tip
On windy days, club up for the exposed holes and avoid the sandy waste areas with careful shot placement. Be strategic on long approach shots—many greens have subtle undulations and false fronts reminiscent of Pinehurst No. 2. On 15, favor the left side for a safer layup and a better angle to the green.
The Main Challenge
The toughest aspects include long forced carries over sandy waste and deep strategically placed bunkers that guard fairways and greens. The undulating terrain requires precise club selection, while water hazards on holes like 7 and 15 punish errant drives and approaches. Greenside collection areas test short game skills.
The Good
Golfers consistently praise the layout for challenging shot-making, excellent bunkering and undulating greens, while also lauding the immaculate course conditions and attentive service. The desert links feel combined with features inspired by famous courses worldwide give every hole character and strategic depth.
The Not So Good
Most complaints focus on high summer temperatures, making midday play difficult. Some players mention premium pricing and wish for more twilight deals or special rates, while others desire faster green speeds during peak season. Caddie services are often requested but currently unavailable.
Signature Hole:
#
15
The 15th hole at The Els Club Dubai is a memorable par 5 defined by a dramatic water hazard to the right and strategic bunkering along the fairway. The elevated green is well-protected, requiring precision on both the approach and layup, making it one of the most visually stunning and challenging holes on the course.
Clubhouse
The contemporary clubhouse offers a fine dining restaurant, bar, pro shop, locker rooms, and onsite spa. Guests enjoy luxury lounge areas, outdoor terraces overlooking the course, and full-service catering for events. The facility is acclaimed for its hospitality and 5-star service.
Practice Facilities
Comprehensive practice facilities include a full-length driving range, dedicated pitching and chipping areas, and a large putting green. Lessons with professional instructors are available. The setup allows for extensive short-game work and full-swing practice before a round.
